Reviews
A beautiful hotel, just yards from the beach, with an interesting art gallery and museum exhibits. The hotel is staged as it would have been from the 1920s onward. It even still uses the caged lift. The service is old fashioned good. The napery (art gallery of pieces executed on the hotel linen) is in several corridors of the hotel.
We had the cream tea with sandwiches and the cheese board. The scones were incredibly light and fluffy and came with generous servings of butter, cream, and jam.
Such an experience stepping back into time with all the collectables displayed in this hotel. Just went in for tea which was delicious but spent ages wondering around musing the serviette art on the first floor and the museum pieces on the ground floor. Well worth a visit.
Went for afternoon tea charged at £18.50 a head for a few finger sandwiches, cake and scone with cream and jam. Portions were small not worth the money. The interior was quirky with an old feeling but was very clean. I cant comment on the rooms.
What an interesting little gem in the form of this hotel. The curated elements are all endearing. The rooms are huge, and while they may not be state of the art, it's good for the price. Great location, too.
The staff are exceptional and accommodating. My only gripe...the beds.
Hands down, the worst. I didn't sleep at all.
I'd be happy to stay here again if it wasn't for the latter.
We very recently had a 3 night stay at the Walpole Bay Hotel in Margate. It was a wonderful experience with everything of a very high quality. The story behind the hotel is fascinating with the owner, Jane Bishop, renovating and adding to the hotel to make it the much loved hotel it is today. Jane lives on site and is very hands on with the running of things along with her family. The staff are very personable with nothing too much trouble. Our room was a generous size and clean with a very comfortable bed. An excellent breakfast with very generous choices. It was a breakfast to look forward to. There is a good bar with a good choice of drinks. The eclectic feel comes from all the memorabilia in the museum that has been collected and the famous people who have stayed there. Although the hotel is over 3 floors there is a great old fashioned lift, nearly 100 years old, to take you to your desired floor. I would thoroughly recommend a stay in this exquisite hotel.
Worth a visit once. Used to enjoy cream teas. Scones used to be really big and tasty. Now small and disappointing
We booked this hotel to see a concert at Dreamland! The hotel is very unusual as it doubles up as a museum ( sort of ) it has some lovely old features ie the lift and decor. The room we stayed in was very dated I'm not sure if this is how it is meant to be ( part of the experience ? ). If you look on YouTube there is an interesting video which shows the room we stayed in and the hotel and what you can expect taken from the TV series ( hotel inspector ). So overall the breakfast was fantastic the staff were great the room was not modern enough for us it's a lovely building which makes you feel like you've gone back in time if that's what you want and if your going to dreamland for a concert it's just a bit to far to walk so get a taxi or stay somewhere nearer. ( I believe there are some modern rooms at this hotel so my review is purely based on the room we stayed in )
One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. It is a genuine place that does not try to hide its age. The rooms are gorgeous and the shower really works. The room service was almost instant and good value. As for the decor and museum, well it just could not be better. Breakfast was well organised and delicious. Well done to the owner and local staff, fantastic experience to be repeated just for the experience. Salim
